Web 2.0: The Not So New Way to Use the Internet
"So I Don't Know What Web 2.0 Means, What's the Big Deal?"
When faced with the question, "What kind of Web 2.0 tools are you using with your students?", many educators might respond: "I didn't even know there was a Web 1.0!" Before we can truly see the successful, pervasive permeation of collaborative internet technology in Education, we must help our colleagues understand what Web 2.0 means. In order to experience a ubiquitous use of collaborative internet technology in our schools, ALL educators must be able to:
-
Differentiate between Web 1.0 & Web 2.0
-
Understand why internet collaboration is ESSENTIAL for 21st Century learners
-
Truly believe that it is essential
-
Use at least one Web 2.0 tool on a consistent basis (both personaly AND professionaly)

My Web 2.0 Tools for Education
Here's a list of Web tools that I currently AND consistently use. They are not all specifically designed for education, therefore some may not be appropriate for use with younger students.
Note: With so many web tools to choose from, anyone could get easily & quickly lost in the sauce that is Web 2.0. SEOmoz reviewed hundreds of sites in the Web 2.0 sphere to uncover the best in each of 41 categories. From there, they assembled a team of 25 of the most knowledgeable, well-respected experts in the field to vote on the winners (1st - 3rd place + Honorable Mention). I highly suggest this as a jumping off point to find a web tool that you need.
